Second Bomb Scare

Accra experienced its second bomb scare in 24 hours on Wednesday as the Ghana International School, an exclusive school for children of diplomats and the very rich, was evacuated after an anonymous phone call.

The caller told the principal that there was a bomb in a car on the compound. Police later confirmed that it was all a hoax.

“At 13:15 a call came through the receptionist to the principal that there was a bomb in a car at the car park,” said deputy principal K Offei.

“We rang the bell for the students to gather at the assembly hall, and called the police and military,” he said.

Offei said military police cordoned off the school and the cars were searched by the police and military, but no bomb was found.

“All the students have been sent home, but the police and military are still searching. They are looking for strange cars.”

On Tuesday, a bomb scarce at Merchant Bank Ghana Limited in Accra brought activities at the bank to a halt.

Staff were evacuated as police experts searched for a bomb which an anonymous caller said had been planted in the building. The search yielded nothing.
