Eleven districts to benefit from REP

Kokoado (Ash), May 4, GNA – Dr Mathew Antwi, Deputy Minister of Environment and Science, on Tuesday announced that eleven out of the 53 districts, selected for the second phase of the Rural Enterprise project (REP) will benefit from the project this year.

He said the project was being funded by the government, the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the African Development Bank (ADB).

Dr Antwi was speaking at a start-up workshop for the staff and members of the Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma district assembly, chiefs, entrepreneurs, agriculturalists and small-scale entrepreneurs at Kokoado near Kuntanase in Ashanti on Tuesday.

The workshop is designed to provide a platform for stakeholders in the REP find out best approaches for the successful implementation of the project.

Mr Sampson Kwaku Boafo, Ashanti Regional Minister, entreated the district assemblies to meet its obligations as contained in the memorandum of understanding for the execution of the REP to ensure the success of the programme.

These included funding of the establishment of a Business Advisory Centre (BAC), ensuring that the District Implementation Committee (DIC) functioned fully and the integration of the REP activities into the district’s overall development programme.

Mr Kwasi Atta-Antwi, Project Co-ordinator of the REP, said the Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma district was the fifth to have started benefiting from the REP project since it was launched in July last year. Mr Boafo inaugurated a nine-member DIC for the district, under the chairmanship of Mr Bright Addai-Mununkum, the District Chief Executive.
