Dumakyi (Ash), May 3, GNA – Mr Emmanuel Aniboye, Kwabre District Director of National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), has admonished men to disabuse their minds of the thinking that sending sick children to hospital was the responsibility of only women. He said by accompanying the wife to the hospital or taking the sick child to the hospital helps to lift the distress of both mother and child and also relieve mothers from the psychological trauma they go through whenever children fall sick.
Mr Aniboye was speaking at a health forum held at Dumakyi near Ankaase in the Kwabre district at the weekend.
It was jointly organised by the Co-operative League of the United States of America (CLUSA), an international NGO working in the district under the Ghana Government Accountability Improves Trust (GAIT) programme, Kwabre district directorate of the Ghana Health Service and the NCCE.
Community health workers, traditional rulers, assembly members, unit committee members and education officers attended the workshop. Mr. Aniboye reminded the people that it is the responsibility of both parents to take care of the child because both of them decided to bring forth the child.
He called on the people to take to family planning to be able to cater for themselves and their children, adding that there was the need for them to also keep the environment clean to prevent the outbreak of epidemic.
Madam Leticia Diabene, Kwabre District Director of Health Services, said the directorate has decided to extend its mobile clinic services to Dumakyi and other surrounding communities as from this month to make health care delivery accessible to the people, at least once a month.
She advised nursing mothers to take to health care practices and also immunise their children against the killer diseases. 3 May 04
