Businessman and His Secretary Before Tribunal

Accra (Greater Accra) 20 May, ’98 — An Accra Circuit Tribunal today adjourned until June two a case in which a businessman and his secretary are charged with defrauding a trader of 2.5 million cedis. Togbe Kwasi Sasraku II, a chief in the Volta Region and Daniel Asante, the secretary, pleaded not guilty to defrauding Mr. Jones Arthur, a businessman.

The tribunal ordered that Togbe Sasraku should deposit six million cedis to the tribunal as a condition for bail while Asante was granted five million cedis bail.

Police inspector Joseph Anneh Kwame told the tribunal that in November 1996, Mr Arthur and a colleague planned to travel overseas. They were introduced to Togbe and his secretary who agreed to secure them American visas.

The prosecution said Mr Arthur, acting as a front man, paid the money to the accused persons who promised that the documents would be ready in two weeks. The prosecution said Togbe and his secretary began telling stories until they were arrested on January seven, this year. gri
