Mandatory towing fee: AFAG commends government for suspending project

Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG) has commended government for suspending the mandatory towing levy, adding that the withdrawal of the policy is an indication that government is ready to engage the relevant bodies.

AFAG believes the towing service is a laudable idea which would save productive hours as well as lives and limbs but vehemently resist the monopolization of the implementation of the towing services by the Road Safety Management Company.

A statement issued and signed by the Leadership of AFAG states that “Alliance for Accountable Governance holds the view that the provision of towing services for motorists who get stranded is a laudable idea and should be embraced by the public”.

“These towing services policy would reduce about 25% of the total road accidents which is caused by broken down vehicles. However, AFAG disagrees with mode of implementation of the policy.”

AFAG also charged government to engage and empower insurance companies through premiums to pluralize the concept and expand the market to create more jobs for the youth.
