Driver Fined One Million Cedis For Careless Driving

Accra (Greater Accra) 20 May, ’98 A driver who drove carelessly resulting in the death of a pedestrian was today sentenced to a fine of one million cedis by an Accra circuit tribuanl for careless driving and causing harm.

Yaya Baba, who pleaded guilty on both charges, will go to prison for six months in default. Police Inspector Albert Akpeh told the tribunal chaired by Mrs. Elizabeth Anderson Owusu, that on Christmas eve of 1996, Baba, then driving a taxi on the Nima-Mamobi road, carelessly knocked down Madam Fati Abubakari, 50, a pedestrian.

Madam Abubakari was rushed to Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital with injuries but died soon after admission. gri
