Several people displaced at Fanteakwa

Several people have been displaced by flood in Fanteakwa district of the Eastern region following downpour since Friday afternoon.

The displaced residents have been sheltered at a church while awaiting the flood to subside to enable them salvage their properties.

Officials of NADMO and the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area are touring the affected community while NADMO staff continue with assessment of damages.

The acting District Coordinator of NADMO at Fanteakwa, Ransford Owusu Appiah, told Ultimate News the flood was caused by a river in the community which overflowed its bank hence about 60 to 80 houses have so far been affected.

According to the acting NADMO Coordinator, the Fanteakwa district last year initiated a project to dredge the river as a mitigating measure to the perennial floods in the area hence the reduction in the impact of the floods this year.
