Don’t attack us – Police

The Ghana Police Service has appealed to the public not to attack the officers who are providing security in communities across the country.

Chief Superintendent Kwesi Fori, Operations Commander, Greater Accra Regional Police, has said the Police stand for peace and unity and so under no circumstance should they be targets of attacks.

His comments follow the killing of Michael Kporye, a police officer who was making his way to work at Michel Camp in the evening of Monday, June 12.

Speaking in connection with this in an interview with Chief Jerry Forson, host of Ghana Yensom, on Accra100.5FM on Friday, June 16, Chief Superintendent Ofori said: “The public should rather support us to deal with miscreants in the country. The police are their friends and so they should have confidence in us that we will provide them with the security they want.

“Attacking the police will not in any way help in fighting crime in society, it will rather worsen matters. And so we would say the police should not be a target any day. We stance for peace and unity in the country.” He further indicated that the welfare department within the Ghana Police Service would deal with compensation for the late officer.

He said: “The welfare department of the police will settle issues with the family of the murdered officer. The police as an institution, we have our own arrangements for such officers who suffer these problems and so that arrangement will be followed.”
