Anglican diocese of Kumasi fetes the aged

Kumasi, April 25, GNA – Right Reverend Daniel Yinka Sarfo, Anglican Bishop of Kumasi, has appealed to religious bodies and the government to institute more sustainable schemes to honour the aged and feeble in the country. He said awards for the aged would help rekindle their spirit and also make them more proud without any regrets for having contributed to development of society and the country.

Bishop Sarfo said the honouring of the aged would greatly motivate the youth to contribute more genuinely towards progress of the church and the nation once they are aware that their contributions will be appreciated in their old age through honours and awards. Rt Rev Sarfo was addressing a gathering of the aged and feeble members of the Saint Cyprian’s Anglican Cathedral in Kumasi on Sunday at which they were received gifts for their contributions to the growth of the church.

The event was also used to inaugurate a sick bay established by the church.

Rt Rev Sarfo regretted that even though the foundation for the development of the church and the country were laid through the sweat and toil of the aged, very little recognition accorded them.

“Any nation or society that does not recognise the contributions of its aged or honour its heroes is not worth dying for”, he added. The Very Rev Dr Festus Yeboah-Asuamah, Dean of the Cathedral, said it is the policy of the church not only to seek the spiritual well being of its members but also their physical needs without discrimination, hence the policy to equally give attention to the aged.
