Winneba April, 26 GNA- The Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Mr. Kwadwo Adjei-Darko, said on Saturday that the temperament of political leaders determine the direction and final destination of a nation.
He therefore, called on the electorate t0o make the “right choice so that the nation could move forward.
The Minister said this when he spoke on the topic “The role of the politician on the ongoing democratic dispensation” at a one-day forum organised by the University of Education Winneba, branch of the Bong Ahafo Students Union at Winneba.
The theme for the forum was “improvement of education in Brong Ahafo; the role of the Elite”.
Mr. Adjei-Darko said that the role of the politician is to ensure that there is love, selflessness, gentleness and humility and other good habits for posterity to emulate.
He called for hard work and peace to ensure rapid development of the nation at all levels.
In an address read for her by the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Chief Executive, Captain Steve Kwamena Armah (rtd), the First Lady, Mrs. Theresa Kufuor, urged the students to develop the willingness and the ability to help heir regions and the nation, especially their less fortunate brothers and sisters who have not had tertiary education.
“It is when the majority of the citizens of your society have the opportunity of receiving academic and moral instructions, that we can say with confidence that education is improving in the society”, Mrs. Kufuor added.
She commended the government for the improvement of school infrastructure in the area.
Mrs. Kufuor urged the students to offer free tuition to their younger brothers and sisters who are striving to come up, during vacation.
Mr. Justice Yaw Apau, a High Court Judge appealed to the students to help resolve the numerous chieftaincy disputes in the Brong Ahafo Region to give way to development.
Mr. Justice Apau urged them to stay in the county after completion of university education to help build a better nation for all instead of leaving for greener pasture elsewhere.
He expressed regret that while pupils and students in the big towns and cities spent their weekends and vocations doing extra-classes and exploring in the internet, our brothers and sisters continue to spend these periods to odd jobs in order to get money to finance their education.
It is these problems faced by pupils and students from the regions that we are calling on the Elite from the region to address, he said.
