Lecturer angry with Afenyo-Markin for leading closure of UEW

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Effutu where the main campus of the main campus of the University of Education Winneba is situated, Alexander Afenyo-Markin bad intent led to the shutdown of the institution, a Senior Lecturer of the university Dr. Frimpong Duku stated.

“Hon. Afenyo Markin knows that the then Minister of Education went to parliament to explain why he extended the mandate of the Council from 2013 to 2016”.

“He was in parliament and knew all these things. So if he comes to see the Council acted illegally then I do not know what he intends to do” Dr. Frimpong Duku disclosed on Ultimate FM’s Morning Show hosted by Lantam Papanko.

According to the Senior Lecturer, the University officially wrote to the Presidency to reconstitute the Council and their mandate was then extended by the Education Ministry.

“It was not only Winneba, almost all the Universities have their Councils extended per what they wrote to us. ..And I do not know how the gentleman has singled out Winneba” he bemoaned.

A High Court on June 13, 2017 granted an injunction by a former Assemblyman Kofi Keyera who argues the legality of the University’s Council to take certain decisions.

Mr. Alexander Afenyo Markin who is acting as Counsel for the plaintiff has come under legal attacks after the University was ordered to shut down all it campuses until the substantive matter is heard on Friday June 16, 2017.
