TTH confusion: Blame us – Ministry of Health

The Ministry of Health has accepted responsibility over the confusion that resulted from the appointment of a new Chief Executive Officer for the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH).

The Public Relations Officer of the Ministry, Robert Cudjoe, speaking in an interview with Accra News’ Abena Korantemaa Agyapong on Tuesday June 13, said the letter written to the former CEO of the hospital, Dr Prosper Akanbong, announcing the appointment of a new CEO delayed, hence the confusion.

He said it was the fault of the Ministry for not ensuring that the letter reached him in time to enable him prepare his handing over notes to the new CEO, Dr David Zaawumya Kolbila.

Dr Akanbong, who was appointed in 2014, has refused to hand over to Dr Kolbila, a gynaecologist and lecturer at the University for Development Studies Medical School, citing the government’s failure to, among other things, compensate him.

But Mr Cudjoe clarified in the interview: “Blame us for not sending the letter to him on time.”

Touching on the demands by the outgoing CEO for a send-off package, Mr Cudjoe said: “For the compensation, now that he has received the letter, I am sure management of the hospital will settle it with him.”
