Three to contest Agona West NPP primaries

Agona Swedru, April 23, GNA – Three candidates, including the sitting Member of Parliament for Agona West have filed their nomination papers to contest the Agona West NPP primaries to be held in June. The contestants are Mr Samuel Kweku Obodai, incumbent MP, Mr Paul Kofi Tawiah, retired educationist and author and Mr Ebenezer Kojo Quarshie, a tutor at the Apam Secondary School.

Mr Henry Taliskis, constituency secretary of the party who disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Agona Swedru said at the close of the nominations at 17 hours on Thursday, only the three had filed their nomination papers.

He said each contestant paid one million cedis for the nomination forms and 10 million cedis bank draft for the election, saying that the papers would be submitted to the Regional Secretariat at Cape Coast for onwards transmission to the Party’s headquarters.

Mr Taliskis said party officials from the headquarters would vet the contestants before a date would be fixed for the primaries. He noted that the constituency executives would introduce the contestants to the polling station chairmen who form the Electoral College, after the completion of the vetting.

The Constituency Secretary cautioned contestants to conduct their campaign in a peaceful manner devoid of insults and character assassination to ensure peace and harmony in the party. He stated that the aim of the constituency was to ensure that the party won the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections.
