We will keep NPP on its toes – Minority

Minority MPs have assured supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) that they will efficiently play their role to hold the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) accountable while making parliament strong and more responsible.

Speaking at a rally at Ashaiman on Saturday 10 June as part of the 25th anniversary of the NDC, Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu encouraged supporters of the NDC not to give up on the party but focus on the future and unite to snatch power from the NPP in 2020.

He told the crowd: “Let me assure you that your 106 Members of Parliament will live up to the task in parliament to keep the NPP accountable and to make parliament strong and more responsible. Continue to support them with your vote and we will not disappoint you.

“Let’s all put 2016 behind us and stop the babbling as to what accounted for the defeat of the NDC. Let’s focus on the future, let’s unite and resolve to take the battle to the NPP in 2020 and beyond and restore and recapture political power.”

The Tamale South legislator chastised government for its negative posture on borrowing when it was in opposition, contrary to its current stance now that the same party is in government.

“Just December which is six months ago, Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr Bawumia bastardised President Mahama and the NDC and said borrowing was wrong but today, they have started borrowing and tomorrow they will borrow. Know them, they speak with a double tongue, but we [NDC] borrow to build robust infrastructure to stimulate economic growth and to create jobs. We are waiting for them in parliament to come and say that they want to borrow. We will remind them of what they said in October and December about borrowing and about loans,” he said.
