School of Survey and Mapping re-opened after month-long closure

The Ghana School of Survey and Mapping has been re-opened for academic activities after a month of closure by the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources.

The School will open for full activities on Monday, June 12, according to John-Peter Amewu.

He said the issues that led to the shutdown of the school have been successfully resolved.

The Ghana School of Survey and Mapping was closed down by Lands Minister John-Peter Amewu on Tuesday, May 2 following a clash between students and some land guards.

Mr Amewu ordered the reassignment of staff while the students were asked to vacate their hostels. This led to protests by the students with various student bodies joining in the calls for a reversal of the minister’s decision.

Mahama is chairman But Mr Amewu explains that the issues had to do with the absence of governing board for the school.

Consequently, on Friday, he inaugurated an eight-member council for the school. Alhaji Sulemana Mahama will be the board chairman of the School with Principal Frederick Bediako-Mensah and SRC President Bright Joseph Nsiah among the members.

The other members are Mark Brookman Amissah of the Ghana Institute of Surveyors, Francis Manu-Adabor, Vice Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Lands and Forestry, Jones Ofori-Boadu and Edwin Addo-Tawiah.
