The National Democratic Congress caucus in parliament has described President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s actions as disrespectful to Ghana’s legislative body.
According to the Minority, they do not officially know the whereabouts of President Nana Addo.
Nana Addo, who is on a trip to Belgium to attend the United Nation’s Advocacy Group of Eminent Personalities on the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, reportedly didn’t inform parliament of his absence from the country.
According to media reports, the president will head to Germany after his Belgium trip to attend a Partnership for Africa Summit by the G-20. He is expected to return to Ghana by June 17th.
His actions have infuriated the NDC minority, who quoted Articles 59 and 60 of the constitution, saying that Nana Addo’s travel without prior notice was “unconstitutional”.
According to the Minority Leader, NDC’s Haruna Iddrisu, “the number 1 person” of Ghana could not be accounted for.
He noted that the president was expected to have given a prior notice in writing, signed by him and addressed to the Speaker of Parliament.
The NPP caucus is yet to respond to the minority’s claims.
