I’m upset with Mahama’s murder – Akufo-Addo

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has said he is upset with the murder of army captain Maxwell Mahama.

“I was extremely upset to hear about the news of the death of Captain Mahama. To me it is a complete waste of valuable life. The circumstances do no credit to anybody. It’s very sad to hear about it. I’d like to extend my sincerest and deepest condolences to his wife and family. I asked the Vice President to go and visit the family and I believe today my own wife Rebecca has been there to also console the window,” he said in his message of condolence.

“One thing which is clear is I have told the law enforcement agencies that they should spare no stone and make sure those who are responsible for this act are brought to face the consequences and brought before trial in our courts and justice done accordingly,” the President stated, adding: “We have to have a country where the rule of law works. I have worked for that all my life and now that I’m in the chair, so I have to make sure that there is meaning to it.”

Captain Mahama was lynched by an angry mob at Denkyira Obuasi in the Central Region on suspicion that he was an armed robber on Monday 29 May when a group of people he asked directions from spotted a pistol on him.

His death has been widely condemned across the nation.
