NDC ‘retools’ ahead of 25th anniversary

A Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) says the party is taking stock as it prepares to mark its 25th anniversary on June 10, 2017.

Koku Anyidoho says it is important the party retools and refashions to meet the demands of modern political party organization.

Functional executives of the leading opposition party are in Elmina in the Central Region for a training workshop under the auspices of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

UNDP’s workshop for political party executives is under its Joint Party Support and Strengthening Programme (JPASS), which helps the parties draft their communication and gender policies. Mr Anyidoho speaking at the end of the training workshop said the NDC is already taking steps to reorganize after the 2016 defeat.

“Once we get out of these sessions, and we hit the ground [running] and we reach out to the people with solid documents [and] solid information, we believe 2020 should not be difficult for us.” He said the party has enjoyed mixed fortunes since its inception, having been in power and in opposition.

“As we mirror the past into the future, we are looking at opening up the future.” He said the party is also awaiting the Kwesi Botchwey Committee report, which is likely to be made available at the end of May.

A Vice Chairperson of the NDC, Betty Mould-Iddrisu, was happy with the magnitude of work done over the past couple of days in Elmina.

She was sure that the communication policy document, for example, is expected to have a clear-cut policy not only for national executives but also the grassroots.
