I wanted to contest for NPP national chairmanship position – Wontumi

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) Bernard Antwi Boasiako says he has had a change of mind about his earlier decision to contest the national chairmanship position of the great ‘Elephant’ party.

According to him, his desire to occupy the highest office of his party was far above the ground but had to revise his decision to strengthen the party’s stronghold ahead of election 2020.

“I had wanted to contest for the national chairmanship position but I won’t anymore. I will remain in Ashanti Region as their regional chairman to help the party instead,” he said.

Speaking on NEAT FM’s morning show dubbed ‘Ghana Montie’ the man who is popularly referred as ‘Chairman Wontumi’ in Ghana’s political described his region as “the heart of the NPP”

“The Ashanti Region is the heart and soul of the party [NPP], so it’s my duty to work harder for us to maintain power by gaining the majority votes from this region in 2020 elections” he told host Kwasi Aboagye.

Chairman Wontumi also expressed optimism that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will perform credibility well to save the country from the “bad state the NDC left for us”.
