There must be unity among political parties-NGO

Accra, April 7, GNA- The Islamic Foundation for Peace and Development (IFPAD), a non-governmental organisation (NGO), on Wednesday called on the political parties to unite and solve problems encountered during the Voters’ registration exercise.

It also called for tolerance, and reconciliation among Ghanaians in preparation towards the December general elections.

“This way, we shall succeed in achieving peace and stability which are pre-requisites for orderly development in Ghana,” the Foundation said. Alhaji Alhassan Abdulai, Spokesman for the Foundation made the call at a press conference held in Accra on Wednesday to introduce the NGO established to propagate the teachings of Islam, promote peace, unity and understanding among people of all faiths.

It would also promote the use of dialogue and education as a tool for resolving differences among people, denounce violence, and promote tolerance between Muslims and non-Muslims.

Alhaji Abdulai said the organisation was established to mobilise the vast human and material resources of Muslims towards peace, and development in Ghana and the world.

The Foundation commended the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), under the Chairmanship of President John Agyekum Kufuor, on its untiring effort to maintain peace and stability within the West African sub-region.

It would organise its first national conference in Accra on April 24.
