Senya to spend 75 million cedis for electrification

Senya (B/A) April 5, GNA- The people of Senya in the Nkoranza District of Brong Ahafo are spending about 75 million cedis to connect the community into the national electricity grid under the Government’s Self Help Electrification Programme (SHEP).

Mr. Eric Baffoe-Akrapim, chairman of the area’s Unit Committee told Ghana News Agency at Senya that the people were making special contributions to raise funds in support of the project.

Resident citizens are contributing 20,000 cedis a man and 10,000 cedis a woman, while each non-resident is to pay 40,000 cedis. Mr. Baffoe-Akrapim said the community had procured 35 out of the 60 low-tension poles needed for the project.

He expressed gratitude to the District Assembly for providing 15 of the poles and commended Mr. Hayford Francis Amoako, MP for the area for donating 50 bags of cement, which the people used in constructing eight concrete poles.

The people would also organize a fund raising rally on Easter Sunday to mobilize more funds towards the successful execution of the project, the Unit Committee chairman added.

Mr. Baffoe-Akrapim called on non-residents to visit home during Easter festivities to offer the needed support for the development of the area. The Nkoranza District Assembly is also constructing a six-unit classroom block with places of convenience estimated at 300 million cedis for the local primary school under the Social Investment Fund (SIF).

Mr. Akrapim-Baffoe paid a special tribute to the District Chief Executive, Mr. Kwame Ampofo-Twumasi, for his efforts towards the promotion of education in Nkoranza.
