Aputuogya (Ash), April 5, GNA- The Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma District education directorate at the weekend presented 50 needy pupils selected from all the nine circuits in the district, school uniforms, exercise books, erasers, rulers and pens.
Mrs Gladys Asamani, the District Director of Education, who made the presentation to the pupils, said the supply of the items, finanaced by the Department for International Development (DFID) at the cost of 3.350 million cedis, were to relieve the children of their plight as most of them went to school without uniforms.
She explained that children who went to school in tattered uniforms or bare-footed usually dropped out of school or performed poorly at school due to inferiority complex and therefore, shy away from answering or asking questions.
Mrs Asamani cautioned parents to desist from spending their monies on luxuries at the expense of their children’s education, which was the only legacy they could bequeath them.
In a related development, Madam Cecilia Antwi, the District Co-ordinator of Girl-Child Education has presented different educational packages to about 30 needy girls in the district.
The packages include 25 school uniforms to 25 needy girls at the cost of 1.25 million cedis and the payment of the fees of 30 needy girls totalling 300,000 cedis.
Making the presentation to the beneficiaries, Madam Antwi said the packages were made possible through the DFID and were to relieve the young girls of some of their school fee problems, which had caused some of them to drop out of school.
He said, so far, about 179 community facilitators had been trained to help promote girl-child education in the district.
