Government to act on individuals looting state revenue

Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has revealed that government is tackling revenue leakages head-on with a series of investigations to unravel individuals behind such acts.

Mr Ofori-Atta, who was speaking at the National Policy Summit in Accra on Monday, May 15, bemoaned how individuals cheat the country, adding: “These are normal Ghanaians perpetuating leakages of untold proportions and we are in the middle of investigating a lot of these.”

He was of the view that it is the responsibility of every citizen to abide by laws, indicating: “Sadly, the revenue leakages, which are billions of cedis, are not necessarily by old politicians but truly by each of us sitting at funerals, churches, etc.”

Mr Ofori-Atta highlighted the enormous responsibility of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) to ensure that the country gains maximum revenue through efficient systems.

He said government was focusing on prudent revenue management and expenditure to grow the economy.
