Politicians are not the only corrupt officials in Ghana – UCC Lecturer

Lecturer at the Department of Communication Studies of the University of Cape Coast, Mr. Theophilus Afram Narttey has called for stringent monitoring measures at all government institutions if the country wants to deal decisively with the issue of corruption.

The current approach of focusing lenses on politicians alone, he added will not help the corruption fight, as the issue is also highly prevalent among public servants.

Speaking in an interview with with Ultimate News’ Central regional correspondent Kwaku Baah-Acheamfour, Mr. Nartey stated that politicians are not the only officials who are corrupt in the country as some civil servants are really bringing the country down through stealing and misappropriation of government funds.

He cited the auditor general’s report and happenings at the public account committee as ample evidence that there is enormous rot at government establishment which needs to be stopped.

He therefore called for the strengthening of monitoring systems to detect early those acts of corruption so as to prevent larger amounts from been stolen.

The practice of calling people to refund money, he added is not effective as it becomes difficult to get back such stolen money in the long run.
