Nkawkaw, April 4, GNA – The Kwahu Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana on Sunday raised 100 million cedis at a fund-raising harvest at Nkawkaw in support of Presbyterian Foundation.
Members of the church in all the 12 districts forming the Presbytery, Kwahu citizens in Accra and members of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation, contributed to the fund to be used to finance a number of development projects initiated by the Presbyterian Church. Mr Edward Boohene, Chairman of the Board of Trustees announced at the function that 850 million cedis had already been spent from the interest realised on a two billion-cedi capital of the Foundation to finance a number of development projects of the Church over the past 12 years of its establishment.
He urged members of the church to continue to contribute to the foundation to enable the Church to finance more projects on health, education and evangelism programmes of the church. The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church, Rt. Rev. Dr Sam Prempeh, said though the congregation of the church were contributing to finance activities and development projects of the church, the economic situation in the country was hampering the early completion of the projects.
He said a lot of people in the Northern part of the country were willing to be members of the church to worship God, “but poverty is preventing them from raising the needed capital to provide infrastructure such as chapels and mission houses for the Pastors and Catechists who are to lead them to worship God.”
