Three communities ask for extra polling stations

Atuntuma (Ash), April 2, GNA- Three communities in the Atwima District of Ashanti have appealed to the Electoral Commission (EC) to create more polling stations at Atuntuma to ease the congestion for the December Presidential and Parliamentary elections. The communities are Atuntuma, Ete and Asuagya.

Mr Koomson Kyei, an opinion leader of the area told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Monday, the last day of the registration exercise during a visit to some of the registration centres. He said officials who supervised elections in the area had always been faced with a lot of problems as a result of confusion at the only polling station in the town, which also serves the other communities.

Mr Victor Owusu, the registration officer at the Atuntuma registration centre said he and his assistant had a hectic time during the two-week exercise due to the pressure of work on them and suggested the creation of another polling station in the town for subsequent exercises. He said a total of 615 people registered during the exercise. Atuntuma serves as a boundary between the Atwima and Amansie West districts.
