NDC 2020: I’ll contest if God gives me energy – Prof. Joshua Alabi

Retired Rector of the University of Professional Studies Accra, Professor Joshua Alabi has revealed his stance in the build up to election of the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress.

The former Greater Accra Minister under the Rawlings administration hinted that he will contest the flagbearership if God strengthens him to do so.

“Our party is reorganising now and we want to finish the reorganisation. When we finish the reorganisation those interested will come out and I pray to God that God will also give me the energy if God thinks I should come out,” he noted.

Prof. Joshua Alabi was speaking after the maiden Legacy Lecture Series where he addressed the youth on leadership.

Ahead of the opposition party’s primaries a number of names have begun to circulate on social media with posters of some of the prospective nominees trending.

Former majority leader and incumbent 2nd Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has emerged as one of the contenders for the flagbearership. Mr Bagbin himself has not hidden his ambition to lead the NDC as he recently indicated on Joy FM that it has been his dream to be the President of Ghana.

Other party stalwarts whose names have also popped up include longstanding NDC flag bearer aspirant and former Minister of Trade and Industry, Ekwow Spio-Garbrah; former Speaker of Parliament, Edward Doe Adjaho and former National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) CEO, Sylvester Mensah, who was recently seen meeting NDC members at Sogakope.

They are said to be busily setting up offices and crisscrossing the country to shore up their support bases ahead of the crucial NDC congress, which is expected to come off in 2018.

The 13-member committee chaired by Prof. Kwesi Botchwey, which was tasked by the party’s leadership to investigate the reason for the party’s loss during the December polls is yet to be submitted.
