Man arrested at Police headquarters with pistol, 3 live cartridges

A 48-year-old farmer who attempted to enter the Central Regional Police headquarters in Cape Coast with a locally-manufactured pistol with three live cartridges has been arrested by the Police.

Kwabena Nyarko is said to have concealed the weapon in his pocket and wanted to see the Regional Police Commander.

“Suspect was interrogated and he alleged that there is a protracted chieftaincy dispute between Asona and Asine families at Assin Dansame and wanted to see the Regional Commander,” Central Regional Police PRO, Irene Oppong told TV3’s Thomas Cann.

According to the Police, two officers who were on sentry guard on May 2 at about 1:15pm used a super scanner to detect the weapons when he showed up at the main entrance to the Police headquarters.

The suspect is said to have refused to disclosed the source of the weapons.

He is in police custody and weapons retained for further investigation, the Police said.
