Farmers told to form groups to access facility

Hohoe (V/R), March 30, GNA- Mr Godfred Kwaku Honu, Hohoe District Director of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture has called on farmers to organise themselves into groups to enable them access facilities to expand their activities. He was speaking at the launch of new membership card for the Ghana National Association of Farmers and Fishermen (GNAFF) at Hohoe on Monday.

Mr Honu said the Ministry was ready to assist any recognised group of farmers and fishermen to access loans from the government to enhance their economic activities. He therefore urged them to organise themselves into co-operative groups. Mr John Awuku Dziwornu, National Project Co-ordinator of GNAFF said the Association has come out with an information and communication management project to help respond to the needs of individual and group farmers. He said the project would enhance the capacity of GNAFF to use agricultural and communication tools to enable it offer various services such as training and promotional materials to farmer-based organisations.

Mr Dziwornu said the Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Co-operation of the Netherlands is sponsoring the project. He hoped the new card would assure farmers of the association’s objective of assisting them.
