Oguaa Zonal Councils inaugurated

Cape Coast, March 27, GNA- The seven electoral zonal councils in the Cape Coast municipality were on Friday inaugurated with an appeal to members to be dedicated and committed to ensure development of the municipality. The Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Muniru Arafat Nuhu swore the 140-member committee into office.

He reminded them that the work of the council was voluntary and hoped members would show commitment and patriotism in their work. He said the zonal council was an important structure in the decentralisation policy of the local government concept and advised them to constantly brief the public of government programmes.

Mr Nuhu advised them not to allow their political affiliation to influence their work but as a team with a common destiny, bring about development in the municipality.

“As we enter the election year, you should be circumspect so as not to destroy the peace in your various electoral areas” he stressed. An orientation course was organised for members and they were taken through the concept of decentralisation, local government structure functions, the responsibilities of zonal councils, managing zonal council meetings and waste management.
