Residents flee Sayeegu and Sambiluk over fears of reprisal attacks

Residents Sayeegu and Sambiluk have started feeling the troubled communities for fear of reprisals attacks following the murder of a chief and three others.

Women and children on Monday morning, were spotted leaving the community for other areas according to the paramount chief of the Bunkpurugu Traditional Area Alhaji Abuba Nasimong to safer places

The four persons, including the Chief of Sayeegu were murdered in a renewed land dispute between the Sayeegu and Sambiluk communities near Nakpanduri in the Bunkprugu/Yunyoo district on Sunday .

The death is believed to have sparked some passive tension between the two gates who are allegedly arming themselves for possible fight.

The Paramount Chief of Bunkpurugu, Alhaji Abuba Nasinmong in a telephone interview confirmed the incident, which he said emanated from a longstanding land dispute.

He described the murder of the Sayeegu Chief and his three other family members as highly unfortunate.

The Bunkpurugu Chief said that he had personally intervened earlier to settle the matter between the Sayeegu and Sambiluk communities at his palace few days ago, and did not understand why the other faction could cruelly ambush and kill the Sayeegu Chief and his people on the farm.

According to Chief Alhaji Nasinmong, the mater had been reported to the Northern Regional Police Command which had dispatched personnel to enforce law and order in the area. Meanwhile, the Northern Regional Minister and Chairman of the Regional Security Council, Salifu Saeed has rapidly responded to the situation by sending reinforcement to the area to avert any spillover.

He called for a ceasefire and urged the two feuding Bimoba clans to resort to dialogue to resolve their grievances.
