Accra, March 25, GNA – Dr Nyaho Tamakloe, a leading member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Wednesday stated that the Party would use clean methods to win Election 2004.
He said the NPP would apply democratic means to win, unlike the National Democratic Congress (NDC) that used crude methods, including intimidation and rigging to win in 1992 and 1996.
Dr Tamakloe, who was speaking at a meeting organized by the Odododiodioo Constituency of the Party in Accra on Wednesday night to educate the people on the need to patronize the ongoing Voters’ Registration Exercise, said the NPP Government had performed creditably and rightly deserved a second term.
He said the Government had been able to lay a solid foundation for the country’s economic growth in spite of the fact it inherited an economy that was in shambles.
Dr Tamakloe said from all indications the people were going to renew the mandate of the Party to enable it to consolidate its good works, adding: “Our achievements are there for all to see. The President’s Special Initiatives (PSI) are gradually gaining grounds and would have a positive impact on the economy in the foreseeable future” Dr Tamakloe stressed.
He touched on the Highly Indebted Poor Countries (HIPC) Initiative and noted that the benefit the country was getting from it had brought relief to the people with the provision of a number of social amenities.
Dr Tamakloe accused Former President Jerry John Rawlings of practising “Politics of Envy” and called on all Ghanaians of conscience to condemn him for his unprovoked verbal attacks on President John Agyekum Kufuor.
“Rawlings cannot divide the country into pieces. His tribal politics will fail”, he said, adding that the Government would not be detracted by such divisive tendencies but rather continue to work hard to ensure the comfort of the people.
Reginald Niibi Ayi-Bonte, Member of Parliament for Odododiodioo, said the NPP would retain the seat and called on them to ensure that their names appeared in the Voters’ Register to enable them to cast their vote in December.
He expressed his unhappiness about intra-party feuding and asked those interested in contesting the Party primaries to conduct clean campaign in order not to destroy the solid foundation that had been put in place to ensure that the Party retained the seat. He advised the Party’s agents currently observing the Voters’ Registration Exercise to be very vigilant.
