A severe rainstorm has hit Akwansrem near New Edubiase in the Adansi East District of Ashanti. The blocks of the Local Junior Secondary School and Preparatory Schools were among buildings destroyed. Twenty-five people have been rendered homeless. The District Chief Executive, Mr. E.K. Owusu, and the MP for Asokwa, Mr. John Gyasi, have led officials of the District Disaster management Team to inspect the extent of damage. The District Chief Executive asked the Team to draw up proposals for the formation of a technical body to advise developers on building and roofing techniques to avoid future destruction. He also asked the communities to plant trees to serve as wind breaks. The Assemblymember for the area, Mr. O.A. Koranteng, appealed to the District Assembly and NGOs to go to the aid of the victims.
