Kumasi, March 24, GNA – The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) on Wednesday received educational items worth about one billion cedis from the Ramapo College of New Jersey, United States of America.
The items included 200 computers and accessories, Zip Drives, Journals and books on mathematics and sciences. The donation was the second to be made by the college to KNUST, the first contribution haven been made in 2002.
Professor Kwesi Aggrey, Vice-Provost of Ramapo College and an alumnus of KNUST, made the donation on behalf of the college. He said the gesture was part of efforts by Ramapo to contribute to the development of University education in the country. Prof Aggrey promised to continue working with the KNUST to expand its links with Ramapo College for more support.
The Vice-Provost said he solicited the donation as a way of rewarding the KNUST for the knowledge and experience he acquired there, and called on other alumni abroad to support the University. Prof Aggrey commended all alumni of the University who had decided to stay in Ghana and contribute to national development.
Prof Aboagye Menyeh, Dean, Faculty of Sciences, who received the items on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor of the University, expressed KNUST’s appreciation to Ramapo College and Professor Aggrey for the donation.
He noted that the collaboration between KNUST and Ramapo College had so far been the best of its kind in the history of the Faculty of Science. Prof Menyeh noted said the first donation by the college had facilitated teaching and learning at KNUST.
He urged other KNUST alumni in the USA to emulate the example of Professor Aggrey.
