Suhum, March 22, GNA – The Chairman of Akuapem Presbytery, the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG), the Reverend Charles B. Ahwireng has asked Ghanaians to be careful about their utterances “since the nation is in a crucial stage of its development”.
He called on politicians to avoid acrimony and animosity during their electioneering campaigns to the 2004 Elections. Rev. Ahwireng was opening the 77th Conference of the Akuapem Presbytery at Suhum on Sunday, which was being organised under the theme “Come let us walk in the light of God”.
He said provocative remarks by politicians could result in violence and confusion and affect the peace and tranquillity the country was enjoying.
Rev. Ahwireng said the volatile situation in Liberia, Sierra Leone and other parts of the West Africa Sub-region due to political intolerance should not be allowed to take place in Ghana.
Rev Ahwireng urged all Ghanaians of sound mind and 18 years or above to register in the on-going voters registration exercise.
A fund-raising organised in support of the Suhum Presbytery and to provide logistics for the Presbyterian University Campus designated at Akropong yielded 36 million cedis.
