15-year-old girl shot dead in renewed Alavanyo-Nkonya clashes

A fifteen year old girl was shot dead on Saturday by unknown gunmen following recent attacks on residents of Nkonya Ahenkro by suspects from Alavanyo.

She was shot in the neck during an exchange of gunfire between some unknown gunmen and the police service. This brings the death toll to 3 with two others still in critical condition at hospital.

On Saturday April 22, there was continuous exchange of gunfire between the police and some unknown gunmen who had been hiding in the hills surrounding the Alavanyo Township.

The conflict between the two towns has been raging for over 95 years over a parcel of land.

It is however unclear whether the recent attacks can been related to the land dispute. Several lives have been lost over the years and several properties running into thousands of cedis destroyed over the years.

Curfews have been placed on both towns and their environs but the age old conflict seems not be going away.

Military and Police presence has been beefed up and they have been patrolling the area since the recent incident which occurred on Wednesday April 19 when some palm wine tappers were returning from their farms and were shot.
