Hope campaign, a non-profit making youth advocacy group has commenced a booking reading club for basic pupils in the New Weija community in the greater Accra region.
The campaign comprises of young volunteers who gather children from their communities to help them develop their reading skills.
The New Weija Hope campaign chapter is among 139 chapters established across the country to help improve the reading and creativity skills of the pupil in various communities.
Additionally, the New Weija chapter of the Hope campaign envisions bringing together members of the community to embark on developmental projects such as road construction in order to complement the efforts of government.
According to Shirley Bartels-Sam, a founding member of the Hope Campaign, ”the campaign is about sharing ideas, being involved, and vision. Hope represents our future aspirations. Hope is a Movement”
Mrs. Bartels-Sam also revealed the group’s major challenge is how to mobilize financial resources foot some of their expenses.
She was also worried about the inability of children in the country to read books which are meant for their age groups.
“we have a really big problem even in our educational system because in the educational system as it is now the children are not learning how to read properly… it is really poor”, she said.
