2nd Lady advocates for legislative change in the US

Ghana’s Second Lady, Mrs Samira Bawumia, has urged women to take up the mantle and push for legislative change to get governments to appoint more women in leadership positions in their respective countries.

Mrs. was speaking at an event titled “Women and Government”, organized by the Yale Association for African Peace and Development, a Yale undergraduate group that unites professionals, activists, and scholars that are essential to continued advancement and development.

Mrs. Bawumia also pointed out that woman didn’t need a man’s permission to advocate for what they believed in, and that if more women got into leadership positions, more will follow.

“Statistical studies have shown that the more women participate in leadership positions, the more women will be there.” “Women should be a voice for the people.

They can be very powerful in changing society, considering their leadership qualities,” she said, contributing on the show’s panel.

Further building on the point, Ghana’s Second Lady urged woman to live exemplary lives in order to provide role models for younger ladies to follow.

“We need to mentor young women by leading exemplary lives to inspire them. Whatever you do, put in your best.

You have an audience, do it well, they will recognise you,” Mrs Bawumia stated.
