Stop taking bribes from illegal miners – Alex Akuoko warns politicians

A former parliamentary candidate for Okaikoi South constituency, Alex Akuoko, has warned politicians to desist from the act of taking bribes from illegal miners in order to protect their nefarious activities.

“Politicians who take bribe from galamseyers should put a stop to that and look at the larger interest of Ghanaians. Now almost all our rivers are destroyed”, he sadly said.

He has therefore called on President Nana Akufo Addo to declare a state of emergency at areas where galamsey activities are rampant to restrict operations of illegal miners.

Mr. Alex Akuoko, noted that such restrictions would prevent the illegal miners from damaging our lands and water bodies.

Speaking on ATV’s KANAWU show, the NDC stalwart explained that such a move would also save our green forest and encouraged politicians from both sides of the political divide to unite in eradicating the danger.

In his view, “this illegal mining is really destroying our environment, even our green forests are also destroyed by these illegal miners with excavators and other mining machines”.
