Residents of Akim Abodom a farming community Kwabibrem District of the Eastern region are currently in search of a 26-year-old mother only identified as Ama Ataa who dumped her 3-day-old baby girl at a refuse site in the community.

Assemblyman for the area Addo Dankwa said the lady in question fled the community and her whereabouts currently unknown when residents who had gone there to dispose of rubbish found the dead child.

“Our investigations revealed that Ataa went to a Traditional Birth Attendant (Local Midwife) to deliver on 13th April 2017, Thursday morning, after the midwife had charged her GH¢ 40 she paid GH¢ 20 and told the midwife to keep the baby while she goes back home and bring the remainder of money.

She later came back with no money but pleaded with the midwife to allow her send the baby home and pay the money the next day”, he revealed

According to him, Ataa rather went straight to the refuse dump and abandoned the baby there to die.

The midwife who later went searching for Ataa after several hours of waiting was informed a baby abandoned at a refuse site had been left to die.

She rushed there and verified that it was the same baby delivered by Ataa who at the time had fled the community for fear of being arrested.
