Ghana’s senior military officers have become partisan – Nunoo-Mensah

Former Chief of Defence Staff, Brigadier General (Rtd) Joseph Nunoo-Mensah, is claiming senior military officers in the country have become partisan to the extent that they fear to act against party interest.

He argued that because governments have over the years politicised all institutions, the security establishments are afraid to act and have rather become supporters of political parties.

“Today, if you go to Burma camp, you will find out that most of the senior officers are for this party or the other party. I’m telling you.

I won’t lie to you and this is what has been damaging our institutions,” he said on 3FM’s Sunrise morning show Thursday.

The Former campaign manager of Nana Akufo-Addo in 1998, said this while commenting on the state of security in Ghana on the back of the unlawful activities by the Delta force in the Ashanti Region.

According to Brigadier Nunoo-Mensah, many of the security agencies in Ghana are afraid to act professionally for fear of being sacked hence protecting their interests by towing political line.

He mentioned the Police in particular as lacking confidence and as such, have allowed themselves to be controlled by politicians.

He has meanwhile advised the security agencies to be professional and enforce the rules of the land without fear or favour as he did in his days in military.
