Easter: Avoid excessive celebrations – NPP

The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has charged Ghanaians to desist from overindulgence during the Easter festivities.

Rather, the party has urged Ghanaians to learn from the moral of Easter and sacrifice for the greater good of the country.

Friday April 14 is Good Friday, which marks the death of Jesus, and Sunday April 16 is observed as Resurrection Sunday. The whole period, referred to as Easter, is celebrated by Christians across the globe to mark the events of Jesus’ last days on earth.

In Ghana, the period coincides with the annual festival of the Kwahu in the Eastern Region which is marked by merrymaking.

However, the NPP has urged the public to be measured in their celebrations.

“We believe, perhaps, the important lesson is that we need to be prepared to make sacrifices as we collectively seek to tackle the challenges confronting our socio-economic development, so that we can build a real society of equal opportunities and prosperity for this and the next generation,” the statement, signed by John Boadu, Acting General Secretary of the NPP, said on Thursday, April 13.

“While we urge all believers to use the occasion to renew and strengthen their faith in God and continue to pray for the progress of Ghana, we want to caution against excesses in the celebrations, which often leave us with regrets of accidents and other unfortunate occurrences.”

The party has urged “all believers and Ghanaians in general to reflect soberly on the important sacrifice Jesus Christ made for humanity”.
