Accra Metropolitan Assembly to meet hawkers

Accra, March 18, GNA – The Chief Executive of Accra Metropolitan Assembly would meet Hawkers in the Metropolis on Friday March 19 to find ways of solving the problem of congestion in the Central Business District (CBD).

The meeting scheduled to take place at the Efua Sunderland Park is meant to engage “hawkers in a fruitful and positive discourse bordering on their welfare”.

A press release issued in Accra on Thursday, AMA described rumours making the rounds that it was a ploy to arrest the hawkers as “unfounded and malicious as they are, are meant to thwart the effort and dynamism of the Chief Executive”.

It attributed the rumours to some people, who had in the past, brutalized hawkers and were now trying to create disaffection among the traders at the time the voters’ registration exercise had just began. The AMA, therefore, urged the hawkers to ignore the rumour and report in their numbers at the Park on Friday morning.
