‘Come clear on what constitutes a vigilante group’– Obiri Boahen to IGP

The Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has asked the Inspector General of Police to come clear on what constitutes a vigilante group.

In an interview with Ekourba Gyasi on Atinka AM Drive, Nana Obiri Boahene mentioned that, based on his law background, he would have called for an all-out programme to eradicate the current acts of lawlessness in the country and not necessarily declare war against vigilante groups.

Nana Obiri Boahene made these comments in reaction to the Inspector General of Police David Asante Apeatu statement. The IGP in a press conference last Sunday 9th April 2017 mentioned that the Ghana Police service would soon declare war on vigilante groups across the country.

According to Nana Obiri Boahene, not all groups in the country pass for vigilante groups. He added that a definition will help distinguish vigilante groups from other groups.

“I do not think we should embark on any voyage of discovery; he should give us a definition for vigilantism so we will use it as a measure to determine groups which can pass for vigilante groups”, he opined.
