Sekondi to be twinned to Rotterdam, Amsterdam

Sekondi, March 17, GNA – The Sekondi township would soon be twinned with the port cities of Amsterdam and Rotterdam in the Netherlands to facilitate trade, education and cultural exchanges.

As part of this linkage, a 15-member business delegation, led by Mr Mark Van der Horst, Vice Mayor of Amsterdam on Tuesday paid a working visit to Sekondi and later attended a mini-durbar at Fort Orange, built by the Dutch in 1640 in the town.

Welcoming the Netherlands delegation, Nana Kobina Nketsiah VI, Omanhene of the Essikadu Traditional Area stressed the need to rekindle the friendship that existed between the two peoples for their mutual benefit.

Nana Nketsiah said as soon as the mutual cultural policy between Ghana and the Netherlands were signed, the twinning exchanges would begin.

He said chiefs in the traditional area were ready to release land for any business venture they may decide to undertake.

He said the country abounds in natural resources and that infrastructure that would promote business was being improved.

Dr John Addison, a businessman, said the Dutch had given a lot of assistance to several Ghanaian businesses and there was the need to maintain and strengthen that friendship. He said Ghanaian businessmen were ready and prepared to do business with them.

Mr der Horst said their mission was to find out what the business environment in Ghana was like, in order to plan how to assist local enterprises to grow.

He pledged to support indigenous businesses to expand their operations by adopting modern business practices.
