About 50 excavators are being sent from gold-mining town Prestea in the Western Region to Accra as a sign of compliance to government’s three-week ultimatum to all illegal miners to stop their activities, a Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources has revealed.
Benito Owusu Bio said government’s recent fight appears to be paying off and even a cabinet meeting is ongoing at the Peduase Lodge in the Eastern Region to get a long term strategy in the fight against menace, popularly known as galamsey.
The Member of Parliament for Atwima-Nwabiagya Constituency revealed this in an interview with TV3’s Kwabena Adu-Gyamfi on Monday.
The Deputy Lands and Natural Resources Minister is leading a high-profile government delegation to ascertain Ghana’s readiness for the Kimberly Process Certification Scheme.
The Scheme involves eight countries and it is to verify if Ghana really mines diamond and whether the deposits of the minerals on the market are from Ghana.
