The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced the reopening of the Embassy of Ghana in Washington DC, United States, set for Thursday, 29th May 2025, after months of closure due to internal reforms and staff recalls.
The embassy’s temporary closure followed the recall of Home-Based Staff and the suspension of local staff over concerns of operational inefficiencies and unauthorized activities. A team of seasoned diplomats, led by an experienced officer from the Ministry, has now been deployed to restore integrity and implement structural reforms.
As part of the reforms, an Information Technology (IT) team has been tasked with reconfiguring the embassy’s website and payment platforms. This move aims to eliminate all unofficial and unauthorized digital links previously associated with the mission’s systems.
The Ministry assured the public that systems have been put in place to manage and clear backlogs resulting from the shutdown. It expressed regret for any inconvenience caused during the period.
Inquiries can now be addressed through official communication channels including:
•Email: washington@mfa.gov.gh / ipab@mfa.gov.gh
•Phone: +1 202 686 4520 / +233 240 793 072
Authorities have also confirmed that the issues leading to the embassy’s closure have been reported to Ghana’s Auditor-General and Attorney-General for further investigations and potential sanctions.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to improving public service delivery, ensuring transparency, and safeguarding Ghana’s image on the international stage.
