Delta Force Attack: Courts to close down after crunch meeting

The Executives of the Association of Judges and Magistrates are currently locked up in a meeting over the court siege by pro-NPP group, Delta Force in Kumasi, the Ashanti region, this website can confirm.

The meeting being held in one of the offices of the Supreme Court building by the Judges will take an official position on the Delta Force mayhem visited on the court Thursday.

Deep throat sources from the Judiciary say the disorder and lawlessness by the NPP group is threatening to the independence of the judiciary and have signaled that the association may issue a directive to close down all courts of Judicature in the region until some drastic measures are taken about the situation.

The Association is scheduled to address the media shortly after Friday’s emergency meeting.

However, the Ashanti Regional Police Command has denied media reports suggesting that the presiding Judge, in the Delta Force case was assaulted by the members of the vigilante group when they besieged the court Thursday.

The court, presided over by Mary Nsenkyire, had ordered the 13 of them standing trial for the assault of the Ashanti Regional Security Coordinator to be remanded and reappear on the 20th of April.

However, some aggrieved members of the Delta Force who had gathered at the court premises whisked the suspects away.

Reports say all the suspects turned themselves in on Thursday shortly after their other colleagues aided them to flee the court.

The court siege has been roundly condemned by various stakeholders describing it as sickening and an attack on the rule of law.
