Set up fund to broaden journalists’ knowledge ….. GNA boss

Accra (Greater Accra), 23 April, Mr. Sam Quaicoe, General Manager of the Ghana News Agency (GNA) today proposed the setting up of a fund by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) to help broaden the horizon of journalists. The fund, he said, could be used to sponsor journalists to cover activities of the organisation and enable them to contribute effectively towards the success of FAO’s operations. Mr Quaicoe made the proposal when Ms. Karin-Lis Svarre, Director of Information of the Department of General Affairs and Information of FAO in Rome, paid a courtesy call on him in Accra. she is on a week’s visit to Ghana. He spoke on general operations of the GNA and said the Agency needs capitalisation to enable it to become self-sufficient. Ms. Svarre said there are budget constraints now, but in the past the FAO was helping journalists. Mr. N. Fouda, FAO Africa Regional Information Officer, called for more assistance for the media for the promotion of FAO’s efforts towards food security for all nations.
