Council of State calls for setting up paper industry

Accra (Greater Accra), 23 April, The Council of State today called on the government to speed up work on a proposed pulp and paper industry to be sited at Daboase in the Western Region. “The setting up of a pulp and paper industry was initiated in the 1970’s with the ultimate objective of producing various types of paper for consumption at home and in the sub-region,” said Mrs. Mercy Owusu-Nimoh, a member of the Council. This was one of the many issues discussed, when the Council State met the Executive led by President Jerry John Rawlings at the Castle, Osu. Also present were Vice-President John Atta Mills, some ministers and Presidential staffers.
